I have been looking at these South Carlsbad communities for years also so I have been tracking the schools’ performance. All these communities are in a good school district. The kids go to these schools:

Pacific Rim Elementary – One of the top schools in California. Higher API score (970) than any other elementary schools in Carmel Valley or Encinitas.

Aviara Oaks Middle School – Good API score (875) but did not score as high as the top middle schools in Encinitas (955) and Carmel Valley (960).

Carlsbad High – API 812. Again it scores below Encinitas and Carmel Valley. But there will be a new high school opening 2013 (Sage Creek High School). I hope the new high school will eventually be as good as the two in Carmel valley.

API is only one aspect of school performance. Lack of gangs and plentiful of attentive parents are as important.
