You could try Rancho Penasquitos. I know there are some apartments and condos right at the 56 and Black Mt Rd. It’s just a quick drive across the 56 and relatively cheap compared to Del Mar/Carmel Valley.
July 25, 2006 at 4:18 PM #29600anParticipantI’m not sure what your price range is, but I’m renting in Sorrento Valley. It takes me 5-10 min to get to work. I also work in Sorrento Valley. They don’t have condo in Sorrento Valley, but there’s a townhouse complex on the corner of Lusk and wateridge circle. You can also check out Summerset village in Mira Mesa. It’s at the western end of Mira Mesa, right next to Camino Santa Fe, so it’s 1 block away from Sorrento Valley. There’s also a condo complex on the corner of Camino Santa Fe and Calle Cristabal. I’m not sure if it’s considered Mira Mesa or Sorrento Valley, but either way, it’s 1-2 block from the border line anyways.
July 25, 2006 at 4:33 PM #29604mixxalotParticipantThanks! I just want to be close to the Tech Center where I work in Sorrento Valley to save on gas and commute. I will check these places out. I am looking 1100-1500 to save.
July 25, 2006 at 4:59 PM #29607anParticipantIf that’s your price range, then Wateridge circle complex that I’m staying at is out of your range then. The smallest 1400sq-ft tend to rent for around 1800-1900. But do check out the 2 on the western end of Mira Mesa. They’re the cheapest you can get and still be close to Sorrento Valley (within 10 min drive).
July 25, 2006 at 5:32 PM #29612jabrwokiParticipantI live in Torrey Hills. You should be able to find 1-bedrooms in the upper end of your price range. commute to sorrenty valley is less than 10 minutes through Sorrento Vista Parkway (runs parallel to 805). Check out forrent.com website there are other options in the 92130 area code with a very short commute to SV.
July 25, 2006 at 8:45 PM #29626sdrealtorParticipantBetter yet, go to the beach areas (Solanan Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas) and try to find a house with an acessory unit AKA granny flat to rent. It’s not as spacious as a cookie cutter condo but it’s great living at the beach!
July 25, 2006 at 9:12 PM #29628USMCBunnyParticipantUSMCBunny,
Mixxalot, I live in Solana beach, just north of ville dela Valle (Just north of the race track). Some nice condo’s / townhomes / apartments for rent just west of the I-5 on the back side of the hill. This is no view – but very close to the beach, track, fair etc. Also a few apt complexes off Loma Sante Fe on both side of the freeway.Great Location to live – great access to cool events, watch out for the 5 north traffic coming home.
July 25, 2006 at 9:18 PM #29630mixxalotParticipantI love Solana Beach its a nice area and close to work. I get flex hours so it would help with traffic. I will look for a small flat in the area. Now my challenge is that while I make six figures, I was out of work last year and did a bankruptcy. Other than that I have stashed cash away and kept my credit clean since after the BK. Any way to convince condo owner to rent in spite of a past BK?
July 26, 2006 at 2:21 AM #29656powaysellerParticipantYikes – I think landlords can be choosy, as the rental market is very competitive now, from what I’ve been reading here. Is it easy to get a condo or apartment? The SFH market is very tight right now.
What would a landlord want to make up for the BK? Mine did not do a credit check, when he saw our application. I wonder how many of them really do it. If you have a good paying job, then they may assume you have a good financial history. Could you just omit mentioning BK, and fill out the application, hoping he won’t do a credit check? Or if he does, offer to give more than one months deposit, although that may not be legal. I wonder what Tenant Law attorney Steven Kellman would say. He’s at the Tenant Legal Center on Balboa Avenue, and has a weekly tenant advice column in the U-T. He was featured on the news the other day, in a story about rentals.
July 26, 2006 at 6:09 AM #29661anxvarietyParticipantCardiff is probably the most disproportiately inexpensive for it’s location based on my non-scientific observations… Not many new houses so most have been owning for a long time so they can afford to rent stuff out at attractive rates.. It may have been an anomoly the few times I’ve looked and lived there, but it might be worth checking out…
On a side note, I felt that people were also abnormaly unfriendly in Cardiff! That might be a personal experience as well!
July 26, 2006 at 12:45 PM #29700CardiffBaseballParticipantNo way Cardiff is hip, cool. I live in an older neighborhood, and rent, and probably have the most professional type job of anyone on the block.
Most are long term owners from back when you could be a service worker or run a blue collar crew and be able to afford a home. However if you go and hang out around Yogi’s or VG’s people are pretty friendly. I suppose there are some upper crust type areas that are a little more exclusive, but I don’t pay much attention to those. My kids have not been shunned at school for being renters, the baseball is great, its a nice place.
July 26, 2006 at 3:11 PM #29722sdrealtorParticipantThat’s probably the problem he ran into. they arent high on SUV driving yuppies in CBS.
July 26, 2006 at 4:22 PM #29731mrquoiParticipantThere are some very nice newer rental condos/apts at the very northeast edge of Mira Mesa, Compass Pointe/Westview Village. The commute to Sorrento Valley is very easy from here. Usually if you can document that your paycheck is big enough, the BK won’t matter.
July 26, 2006 at 5:16 PM #29741anxvarietyParticipantThe reason I mentioned Cardiff is because I think it’s inexpensive for what it is.. good freeway access, pretty good beach, nice houses.. whoever is reading this will go there and decide for themselves what the people are like.
SDRealtor, have you been to CBS? ..and NO going there on Google Maps doesn’t count…
It is hip and cool I guess.. but I wouldn’t compare it to Encinitas or Leucadia.. those areas are more what they seem to be.. Cardiff seemed to me like a trust fund kid headquarters 🙂
I lived in Cardiff for 9 months.. It was an observation that continously lingered and eventually the main factor in why I moved.. the people just weren’t friendly. I went to BCB almost everyday for lunch or dinner(next door to VGs).. Sure no one was ever super rude, but I can’t remember a single(not exaggerating)time I was engaged by anyone or had a conversation with a stranger for more than a few quick seconds.. I’ve lived in a lot of places, and have lots of friends… so I felt the pattern was worth mentioning to others.
