Bear in mind that the 400K most likely came out in drips and drabs over the last 10 years. Some probably went toward home improvements, some toward debt service while unemployed and of course some toward dinner at the outback. Having spoken to a few hundred folks I have yet to meet the one who calculated this all in advance.
