In my experience the portable AC units without intake are pretty much useless:

1. They exhaust tremendous amounts of inside air, therefore they suck in tremendous amounts of hot outside air. This more than offsets any cooling effect.

2. The exhaust hose radiates a substantial amount of heat, even if you insulate it yourself.
