While I don’t doubt that I lack vision (in this, and many other things besides), you lack experience in hand-to-hand combat (or what we called CQB: Close Quarters Battle). In battle, if you’re down to your pistol or knife, you’re screwed. End of story.

Just for shits and giggles, go outside and swing a crowbar (and I think a sleeve bar or a heavier length of pipe is probably a better choice) into a watermelon. Repeat this step about a hundred times. That shit gets tiring and fast. Plus, you’re close in, so any misstep, or trip, or stumble, and they’re on you. Game over. I’m all for stoving in the heads of the undead, if it comes to that, but, ceteris paribus, I’d rather sit back and pop their melons from a distance.
