We’ve been going to a private party for the last few NYE…ranch house in the middle of an avocado grove, about 50 couples…everyone parks in the grove….they serve dinner…the LR is cleared to the wood floor and everyone dances the rest of the night. Very very fun.
There are other places that are fun…the Gaslamp will be p-a-c-k-e-d of course but the basement of The Bitter End is one big dance floor and we always have a good time there. At midnight you can go upstairs to toast with everyone at the bar. There is also Jimmy Love’s down the street…they have a live band there.
If you aren’t afraid of people with alternate lifestyles you could always try a place like Urban Moe’s in Hillcrest…another favorite of ours…nice dance floor though there is a lot of line dancing goin on sometimes. There is also The Flame down the street and around the corner…haven’t been there in awhile but it is more lesbian oriented and usually quieter. The wildest place used to be called Club Hedonism though I think it has changed names…used to have go-go dancers on the bar and a unisex bathroom (not by design, by use!).
Lastly, if you’re in North County there are three dance places you can try: The Alley in Carlsbad (live band playing 70s and 80s, crowd is 20s to 50s), Acapulco in San Marcos (DJ, heaving Hispanic HipHop tilt to crowd and music), or Carver’s in RB (crowd is late 30s to late 50s, live band plays mostly 70s fairly mellow stuff.
