SDR: Yup, the war in the trenches decides the game, as illustrated by the number of winning playoff teams that run the ball effectively and play stout defense.
I have to tell you I was laughing my ass off during that Bolts – Raiders game. I’m a huge fan of 1 gap defenses as a youth coach (because its simple and easily coached), and there were the Oakland Raiders, a pro team, running a 1 gap defense against the Chargers and IT WAS WORKING!
Unfortunately, Al Davis is too loyal to “his” guys, and JaMarcus is one of “his” guys, so we’re saddled this with this JaMoke for the rest of the season. We get some lucky breaks, we’ll go 7 – 9, otherwise its a 5 – 11 or 6 – 10 year.
You guys, on the other hand, have so much freakin’ talent and AJ Smith has just squandered it away. Yeah, that Ray Lewis hit on Sproles was obvious; Lewis has spent a career bringing the hat on those type plays (he commented after, saying it was one of the best hits of his career), but the Chargers play calling is making them damn near transparent to good D coordinators (like NE, Pittsburgh, Baltimore).
I’ll tell you the one team that no one is watching closely (in the NFC) and I think they’re poised to push deep into the playoffs, is N’awlins. How in the f**king hell did you guys ever lose Brees? Seriously, he is a friggin’ machine and has so many weapons. Watch out.
So? Baltimore and New Orleans in the big game? And, where’s TG? Is he hiding out after that Chargers game?
