Surveyor: Did you happen to catch HBO’s “Into the Storm”? It was about Churchill and England during the years 1940 – 1945 and it was excellent. Chamberlain didn’t come off too well, nor did Lord Halifax (who was supportive of suing for peace in 1940, with Mussolini as intermediary). I’ve always admired England’s willingness to stand and fight, especially during the truly dark years of 1939 – 1941, but it shows Churchill’s sense of despair as the Germans and later the Japanese run riot and England is losing battle after battle.
I found Obama’s Cairo speech good in some places, but utterly disingenuous in others. As much as people excoriate Bush for his belligerent tone with the Mideast, this was worse, in my opinion. Essentially, an open American apology and a ham handed edict to Israel, with no expectation of holding the Arab world accountable for their own actions. Moral equivalence at it’s worst and an insipid form of appeasement in it’s own right.
In my opinion, I think Kim Jong-il would eat Putin’s lunch. Obama doesn’t stand a chance against this guy and the various malefactors of the world know it. We’re right back to 1979 again and that candy ass approach Carter took.
