N Korea has 8000 artillery tubes in position and pointed south – Seoul will be in deep kimchi if N Korea ever decides to use those tubes
That’s the propaganda Kim of NK want people to believe. Interesting how people/media readily accept the propaganda from the likes of Kim of NK. It’s true significant part of Seoul be destroyed and many many people will lose their lives and get maimed in case war breaks out on the peninsula. US armed forces ran a simulation to estimate the # of casualties in case of a fullscale war on the peninsula and it was a horrific scenario. The density of population is a blessing for great Broadband coverage but bad for avoiding getting killed in a war. But there are some wrong assumptions in your statement and here’s why.
You can’t say 8000 artillery pieces will destroy Seoul.
1st, N. Korea doesn’t have 8000 artillery pieces that can actually HIT Seoul from north of the DMZ. They may have a few hundred to maybe a few thousand that can reach out to Seoul, but not 8000.
2nd, S. Korea and US won’t just sit around counting the shells coming their way from N Korea. The N Korean artillery sites (underground via tunnel) will be plugged with air/counter-battery.
S. Korean army has what’s called ‘Artillery Watch’ (inexact term but you get the idea). These are artillery pieces near DMZ that have a live shell in the chamber with NCO/soldiers standing watch. Literally they can fire it without any delay.
3rd, even if N. Korea somehow concentrates all their artillery pieces at Seoul, it’s a dumb idea. It’s dumb to concentrate all of your force at a ‘civilian’ target and not attack other ‘military’ targets.
Germany at the beginning of WW2 was very very close to defeating UK Royal Air force by attacking their airfields close to the channel. At that point there was some sort of civility left in them so no civilian targets were targeted. From what I read, a German bomber got lost and jettisoned bombs which happened to hit London. UK retaliated by bombing Berlin and from there Goering vowed to retaliate by bombing London into submission and break the will of UK people. Hence Royal Air Force bases were spared the bomb attacks and had time to reequip themselves for their comeback. A history lesson for you on why it’d be dumb for NK to use all their artillery pieces to attack Seoul.
The threat by NK that they will turn Seoul into a sea of fire is what it is, a threat.
Trust me, no one wants ‘peace’ on the Korean peninsula more than Kim in NK. He’s got it good. Why lose it by starting a war that’s he’s sure to lose?
