Had he just come out a month ago and said, “My fellow Americans, it has become clear that our policy in Iraq – drawn from optimism and a desire to see the people of Iraq live in freedom – needs to be revised. This revision will require new thinking, new strategies, and as a consequence a new Secretary of Defense,” the GOP would at least control the Senate right now.
