I heard an interesting theory on Moyers last night. Obviously, Obama needs to retain the Democratic majority in Congress in 2010. He’s attempting to do so by keeping the Republicans placated over the next two years. Hence why we see him reaching across the aisle on so many issues (resulting in all of the Obama == Bush posts here). The key is that in 2010, districts get redrawn because of the census. So Obama needs to keep his majority in order to benefit from the redrawn districts in 2010. Obama is not playing the one month game or even the one year game. He’s playing the four (or eight) year game.
