4S Ranch fire update
Firefighters have gotten the upper hand on a fire that burned six acres of brush near a 4S Ranch neighborhood.
The fire broke out about 11 a.m. and raced up a slope near Camino San Bernardo and Arriba Linda Avenue. Firefighters from 10 engines were assisted by two helicopters and were able to quickly get control of the flames, said John Kremensky, a CAL FIRE Battalion Chief.
Firefighters at this hour are putting out any hot spots as many areas are still smoldering. Nervous residents packed some belongings and were ready to leave, but no evacuations were ordered.
San Diego, Escondido, Poway, CAL FIRE and Rancho Santa Fe firefighters worked on the flames, which started next to a construction site near Camino Del Norte and Bernardo Center Drive, Kremensky said.
Investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause, Kremensky said.
