Barney Frank schooled the Republicans who were whining about Pelosi hurting their feelings:
Give me those twelve people’s names, and I will go talk uncharacteristically nicely to them, and tell them what wonderful people they are, and maybe they’ll think about the country.
The reality is that most of the Nay votes were from Reps (both Dem & Repub) in vulnerable districts:
Among 38 incumbent congressmen in races rated as “toss-up” or “lean” by Swing State Project, just 8 voted for the bailout as opposed to 30 against: a batting average of .211.
By comparison, the vote among congressmen who don’t have as much to worry about was essentially even: 197 for, 198 against.
Bottom line, the voters rejected this bailout, because the majority of them are against it. Congress is simply carrying out the will of the people. That’s their job, isn’t it?
