My sense is that it is for one’s highest good to be prepared without being controlled by fear.

Meaning if it is fear that is motivating you to go out and buy guns, ammo, & canned food, then no.

However, if in your heart you feel that is the prudent and wise thing to do, and you feel safe as you do it, then yes.
