Next time you are in San Diego, check out the Costco Business Center on Convoy. It is a familiar but different experience. Parking is much easier, and their walk in freezer section is huge and you can pretend you are in a Michigan winter for 5 minutes while you check out their frozen meats.
And if you are into retail history, the Costco on Morena Blvd that Mitt Romney used to shop at is the oldest one in the USA. It wasn’t the first Costco however, it was a Price Club that is older than any other existing Costco.
August 9, 2022 at 7:14 PM #826525HobieParticipantAhh yes, your post only brings back memories that I should have purchased Price Club back in the day. I still have my original Price Club Card!
August 10, 2022 at 12:30 AM #826526flyerParticipantAgree, lots of memories. Sol Price was a friend of the family. Lots of people thought it wouldn’t fly, but my parents took their chances, and it worked out. So many great people helped build this city, and to have known them and their families as a kid, and as lifelong friends, along with the history they made, has been very interesting. Nice to see how San Diego has evolved, but the good old days were also fantastic here.
August 10, 2022 at 6:25 AM #826527CoronitaParticipantLol, when I first moved here in 96, I went to the Morena costco to buy a Sony Trinitron tv. It was cheaper than the tv I bought but canceled from Good Guys in UTC.. The salesman from Good Guys was pissed….lol
I got you guys all beat. I recently bought tires…
Not from Costco… Done that
Not from Tirerack.com Done that several times…But get this…
This time I bought tires from… Amazon…..because they were the cheapest for the exact tires I needed to run on an AWD car that requires matching tread.Actually, amazon just places an order from Simpletire.com. But the price ends up lower than if you order direct from Simpletire.com
If there’s 2 retail stores I’d hold stock in for the long term, it’s costco and amazon…Because even cheap ass me spends a fortune at Amazon and Costco….Which is why I carry the Costco Citibank Visa card and the Amazon Chase Card
A close 3rd would be Home Depot, lol.
I don’t really shop anywhere else these days.
Costco has a few interesting home and auto stuff too. I got the saferacks from them and did a self install.
And I also bought my pair of quick jacks through them.

I’m a vegan. I’d freak out in a meat locker.
August 10, 2022 at 8:01 AM #826531gzzParticipantMy most used card is Amex gold. 4% points on restaurants and grocery stores uncapped. I then convert to delta points which are worth about 1.4c when used for first class tix on the nonstop from SAN to Detroit, which I do annually for thanksgiving. So about 5.6%. The annual fee is made up for by the $1000+ welcome bonus. They also put $10 a month into your Uber account for either rides or food, but it doesn’t roll over.
Second best card IMO is the Wells Fargo 2% on everything card. It is slightly better than the other 2% cash back cards, easier redemption and higher welcome bonus.

Had a huge store on W 40th St with a warehouse a city block long less than 100 yards from where the ball drops in Times Square, Miss my uncle, he was a great man
August 10, 2022 at 8:52 AM #826533CoronitaParticipantI don’t eat out enough to collect points on meals.
First of all, eating out is bad for your health.
Second, it’s expensive and I can’t afford to eat out. Well I can, but still.
Third, I’m not a foodie.
August 10, 2022 at 12:31 PM #826534gzzParticipantIn general restaurants are not healthy, but sashimi, poke, salads without heavy dressing, and raw vegan items are all healthy. Thai food without rice, like an eggplant and chicken stir fry, is pretty healthy outside of the salt. Hawaiian can be healthy too if you skip the rice and mac salad and get just fish beef and chicken.
Foodiedom crept up on me gradually. Now I have 12 different types of vinegar. Partly this is from adopting a better diet, since it is more of a challenge to have delicious healthy food.
August 10, 2022 at 10:54 PM #826538flyerParticipantLike most people, love finding all of the best deals on everything, and since it’s so simple to make comparisons on merchandise, credit cards, etc. we probably haven’t paid full price for much of anything for decades.
As far as food goes, we’re definitely foodies with gourmet tastes, and the sky’s the limit, whether at home or when traveling, while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our kids were introduced to nutrition and fine dining at an early age, and have carried both on in their lives. It’s definitely possible to strike a balance between the two.
August 11, 2022 at 6:59 PM #826541scaredyclassicParticipantI don’t particularly like animals. I despise dogs. But in the last few years, I have been overwhelmed with compassion for how we treat animals for food. The idea of eating an animal in our society makes me feel like vomiting now. It’s fucking disgusting what we do to other living creatures. I wouldn’t drink a glass of milk if you paid me $50 nowadays. I can’t even be around people eating burgers, though I’ve scarfed hundreds in my time.
Once you see you cannot unsee. It was the Buddhists in Escondido who changed me. If you eat mindfully, with full attention, contemplating all that went into the food, a bowl of oatmeal is a transcendent experience.

August 11, 2022 at 7:03 PM #826543sdrealtorParticipantIm about to grill dry aged sirloin burgers and have a lovely cab in the decanter. I’m Dogsitting my daughters puppy and teaching her to catch a frisbee. Such joy in these simple pleasures. Guess i won’t invite you.
August 11, 2022 at 7:08 PM #826545anParticipantI can’t stand eating vegetables. If I could be a carnivore, I would. But alas, our centuries of evolution say I can’t, so I’m settling to eat vegetables sometimes.

Dogs depress me. Bred to cater to our mental illness. Burgers…ack. I haven’t had alcohol since Feb 2020. Pretty sure meat fish eggs dairy and booze are in my rearview mirror.
Anyone up for some organic dog meat? Elwood’s sells the best in the USA. I think they’re the only provider currently legal…..foodies love their free range pups. You can buy specific breed meat too. All humanely raised and slaughtered ..
