Mocktail suggestion.
I used to drink a lot of micheladas, but when I quit the booze, I moved to flavored seltzer and tomato juice. Very cheap cocktail indeed. I drink them all the time. Hydrating and kind of like a micheladas a little.

Grand Cru Burgundy is basically unobtainable for mortals. Trades in the thousands. First and Super second growth Bordeaux has long been high. Top tier Napa Cab inflation is nuts with the top dogs cresting $1000. What was $50 a decade ago zoomed past $100 long ago and most high quality bottles are now $200 – 500. Dont even get me started on Bourbon. A bottle I bought 5 years ago for $300 is now $5000+. The inflation there supercedes SD housing inflation. Anything that is deflating can be mass produced by industrial means and may not be fit for human consumption
The only thing cherry I have use for are Luxardos for my Old Fashioneds

I don’t envy anyone how had an infant right now.
..Abbott’s Lab is basically shut down….
Contamination and supply chain issue.

Not sure if just planned or real shortages. The Age of scarcity.
But I think we are luckier on the west coast so far.
Good time for a remake of Mad Max LOL.
May 13, 2022 at 8:17 AM #825550gzzParticipantI have a baby but we have a 20lb surplus of mother’s milk in the freezer.
We looked into selling or donating it, goes as much as $5 an oz. The admin and handling work is too much.
We wanted to donate the cord, but the cord bank couldn’t take it because our trip to Cabo disqualified us based on some rare disease in Mexico.
May 13, 2022 at 8:26 AM #825551scaredyclassicParticipantI saw a tiny Ziploc bag of arugula at farmers market for $7.00. by weight, I think weed is now officially cheaper than organic arugula.

I think bodybuilders at gyms buy the stuff. I always felt rich when I had a freezer full of breast milk. I’d be like, baby we are loaded!!! Ultimately every last drop was consumed. By tiny humans. I only tried a few drops.
A 20 lb surplus is so milkily beautiful

E bikes, breasts and oatmeal are the way forward

You should bank the cord blood for your own kid. I did.

The scarcity issue again I think has a lot to do with a heavy dependence of a global economy + supply chain issues due to lockdowns abroad + war abroad.
Now that wages are going up and we have inflation here, it’s making more and more sense to move some of the work back here in the US.
In the long run, it’s a good thing imho.
May 13, 2022 at 9:46 AM #825557CoronitaParticipantAlso, please note the 2022 minimum wage law for software engineers in CA…
California increases 2022 threshold for computer professional exemption
[quote]
2022 rate increase
Each year, California’s Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) adjusts both the minimum hourly pay rate and the salary level for the following year based on the California Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers. On October 18, the DIR announced(Opens in new tab) that the compensation threshold for the computer employee exemption from state overtime pay requirements will rise 5.3% next year, mirroring the increase in the CPI. Effective January 1, 2022, the minimum compensation rates for the exemption will be: an hourly rate of $50.00, a minimum monthly salary of $8,679.16, and a minimum annual salary of $104,149.81.

May 13, 2022 at 10:11 AM #825559CoronitaParticipantBasically, the way the law works is that…
If you want to classify a software engineer as “exempt” (non hourly worker), you must pay him/her/they $104.2k or higher, otherwise they must be classified as an hourly worker eligible for overtime pay.May 13, 2022 at 10:21 AM #825560flyerParticipantReally hope the baby formula issue is solved soon. Our daughter’s baby is due soon, but, like gzz, they have it covered, but for those who need it, the situation is heartbreaking. It does seem like most everything in life, from necessities to luxuries, is in high demand.
We recently had my wife’s art collection appraised again, and it’s off the charts, especially if it were auctioned. There are many collectors who are obsessed with owning certain pieces, and are willing to pay almost anything to acquire them.
Kind of sad we live in a world of such extraordinary extremes.
