Okay, I’m not defending McCain per se, (I admire him on some levels, but I am not voting for him) but I think that marriage is a pretty complicated thing, and McCain and his first wife had a pretty unusual set of circumstances to deal with. Military life is not simple in the best of times, and add a horrific car crash and 5 years as a POW to the mix, and WOW–you have a hot mess.
Plenty of politicians have done things that don’t qualify them to be paragons of virtue. Hell, I’ve done things that don’t qualify ME to be a paragon of virtue. I just don’t believe that the circumstances of a divorce are one of the more important issues when considering whether someone would make a good president or not.
Marion, I don’t believe that ad hominem attacks are the best way of picking your candidate or belittling someone else’s. Furthermore, we just can’t truly know what goes on in someone else’s marriage. Can we draw extreme conclusions about you or anyone else who has been divorced at some point? Would that be fair or even accurate? I think not.
