Scalia supported a strong executive. He was for the line item veto.
Scalia would say that the president has the right to nominate a replacement.
Don’t you really mean: “Scalia supported a Monarchy”?

Looks like he enjoyed good Italian food and wine.
I wonder if he were thin, would he have lived 10 more years?February 15, 2016 at 8:00 AM #794343cvmomParticipantDied in his sleep, seems like a great way to go.
February 15, 2016 at 10:21 AM #794345scaredyclassicParticipantI would gladly take Scalia’s lifespan/ outcome
February 15, 2016 at 11:46 AM #794346poorgradstudentParticipantThe President clearly has the right to nominate a replacement. It’s more ambiguous when the Senate needs to do their part, and they can always reject the nomination as the Democratic controlled Senate did to Robert Bork.
Both sides are going to try to leverage the situation politically where they can, but if the arguments get too bogged down by Constitutional law the average voter will tune out and fall asleep. Thus far the American people haven’t seemed especially angry when either party uses the filibuster to stall anything from happening.

Given his achievements and influence? Or do you simply mean living to 79 and dying in his sleep?
If euthanasia were legal, dying in sleep would be a piece of cake.
February 15, 2016 at 11:51 AM #794348FlyerInHiGuestIt’s interesting that scalia, in his dissent to the line item veto case, said that the president has wide discretion to not spend money appropriated by Congress.

No I’d just take being active hale and hearty then dropping at 79.
February 15, 2016 at 1:48 PM #794351DoofratParticipantI don’t know if it’s just me, but dying in my sleep freaks me out. For some strange reason, I’d want to know I was about to die, not going to bed on some random night and not realizing I wasn’t going to exist after that. Maybe it’s just me.
February 15, 2016 at 2:40 PM #794353FlyerInHiGuestScalia likely had chronic health problems.
I’m pretty sure he dyed his hair dark. Would you dye your hair, scaredy? What is aging gracefully?
February 15, 2016 at 3:52 PM #794354bearishgurlParticipant
Scalia likely had chronic health problems. . . .
I saw a piece this morning with a video of the innkeeper where he stayed. He said that when the Justice didn’t show up for breakfast or lunch the day after he arrived, he knocked on the door and got no answer. Then he let himself in and found his body on the bed. The covers weren’t even turned back (indicating he may have collapsed as soon as he left dinner the night before, saying it had been a long day and he was “fatigued.”) The county judge in TX stated that the family didn’t want an autopsy and she would sign his death certificate as “natural causes, heart attack” or something like that. The newscaster stated that his doctor in DC has been contacted, who stated that the Justice had seen him twice in the week before and that he told him that he was in “poor health.”
Maybe the quail hunting trip was on the Justice’s “bucket list.”
The place he was staying looked and sounded on the video like a fantastic resort.
I’ll try to find the link again for the video. It was interesting.

I will not dye my hair. I will not.
February 15, 2016 at 8:07 PM #794356moneymakerParticipantI dye my hair, work out at the gym and am always told by everyone except my son that I look younger than I am. I remember seeing Scalia interviewed for a TV special a while back and I was impressed by the guy. Should I have flown my flag at half mast today? Didn’t think about it until now.
