    I am having a debate at work with a coworker…have a report that references spending $12,000 in 1994 dollars and wondering what does that extrapolate to in 2016 dollars?

    I know there are lots of smart people on here can anyone assist with that calculation??

    I found the tables that provide the avg annual rate of inflation for each year from 1995-2015 would I simply multiply out and up each year?

    I am a scientist, but am notoriously bad at math….

    BLS has a calculator on their site.

    Alternatively you can do this calculation.

    12000 * ( CPI value now / CPI particular older year)
