Going back almost three decades now, the first rule of forum participation is always: Don’t Feed The Trolls!
When someone new comes on here asking about where to buy, gives no specifics on what they are looking for, doesn’t give specifics when asked (I asked), and proceeds to bad mouth virtually every pigg and every area discussed then we’ve definitely got a troll on our hands.
Why some folks get a kick out of being trolls I’ll never know, but the best way to get rid of them? Don’t talk to them! If they can’t get a rise out of people, they go away!!!
If you continue feeding the troll, then you deserve what you get.
Another good post, svelte, but I guess it’s just too tempting to feed them. It’s kind of like watching a disaster happening right before your very eyes. You know it’s not going to end well–you want to look away–but, somehow–you just can’t. That said, thanks for the reminder.
Sorry, flu, I think most Piggs would agree you just don’t have enough “Trollistic” qualities to win. You’re too smart, make too much sense, know exactly what you’re talking about, support it with solid data, and I could go on and on.
As an alternative, we could have threads devoted to each area (both CVs, Mira Mesa, etc.) and simply let the posters either read or post their opinions there. I have a hard time believing that people join the board just to be jerks, but I do think there are a lot of people out there who are mad that they can’t afford what they want in SD. I remember when we looked for our first house here (’97) it was an eye opening experience. My husband was convinced he wanted to live west of the 5. The junk that we looked at was so depressing . . . you have to adjust your expectations, but there is no point in being rude.

Excellent advice….except, most people just love to hear themselves talking…..and some like a effing broken record that repeats the same sh!t over and over again.
In these cases, after a certain point, I think all you can do is wish someone the best and let it go. Life on earth is short, so, hopefully, they will somehow find what they are looking for before it all passes them by.
There’s so much I could say–and it’s so tempting–but I promised myself I would not, from here to infinity, beyond the blue horizon, or until the cows come home ever again feed the trolls–done. Whew! that was close.

I do see a difference between 3 & 4 and sadly think 3 is becoming a more commonly used tactic.
I think feeding the trolls is quite useful. It’s particularly interesting to get insight into the mind of such people from a psychological perspective.
It also probably saves lives, since they are venting their frustration on a blog instead of doing actual damage in the real world.
