Unless you’re sitting nose-to-nose with the TV, does it matter? Buy the best used 60″ TV you can on Craigslist from someone upgrading to 4k. The cloud-crap apps don’t really matter either. I’d rather have a good dumb TV. At least I can cheaply upgrade an HTPC or Apple TV. Not so with the TV itself.
May 7, 2015 at 2:36 PM #785959anParticipantI love my 4K TV. I buy TV and keep it until it die. I bought 1080p plasma when there weren’t any 1080p content and after a couple of years, content came when there are enough 1080p TV around. I think the same thing would happen with 4k content. Give it a year or two.
As to to benefits of 4K, I see a big difference. Even with 1080p content, there’s a big difference between my 65″ 4k tv vs my 50″ 1080p TV. The image just look sharper. Once 4K content come, it would look even sharper than the up-convert 1080p content.
Since I buy my TV for life, I want to be able to future proof myself. It worked out well for me when I bought my 1080p TV, so I don’t regret shelling out a little more for my 4K TV.

May 7, 2015 at 2:44 PM #785963FlyerInHiGuestI’ve bought quite a few TVs for furnished rentals.
I find the Vizios are the best value for the money.
Spd, CL is not cheap for used TVs because people still relate current value to what they originally paid.
GTM stores is a good place to buy open box/returns. They resell the costco ones. Last time i went they has a 4k smart Vizio 70 inch for $1,100. Only buy when they have 20% or 30% discount coupon.
Technology is improving fast. If you insist on the best, get a sony or samsung. Looks are important to me, so I have an ultra thin Samsung, not 4k. Not yet.

Haha.
It’s not that I like watching tv… But the old CRTs are so ugly.
If you can get something under $1000, why not upgrade and update your home.
By properly hanging your TV, you can reclaim a lot of space in a small apartment.May 7, 2015 at 3:19 PM #785965spdrunParticipantThe 50″ LCDs are a dime a dozen on Craigslist. Like under $300. Why pay $1000?
I grew up in a house — I think our CRT was 25″ and that was considered big. I don’t watch the glass tit enough to waste an additional $700 on a TV. That would be pearls before swine.

May 7, 2015 at 3:59 PM #785968FlyerInHiGuest50 inch was always an odd size.
Plus LCD is old tech. You want LED.Last winter I got a 50inch LED smart Vizio for a bedroom at GTM for about $330 including tax.
If you’re patient you could get a smart 60 in open box for about $500 to $600 depending.
Big TV are not luxury items anymore.
SPD, if you want waste of money, think rent-a-center rentals, or paying $10/mo to rent a cable modem. Millions of people do it.
