They talk about this many times. It’s probably not going to happen.
I think QC’s numbers probably won’t be as bad as it seems. Seems like expectations are already pretty low versus last year. We’ll see exactly how much damage Samsung did do by using their own chips in their flagship phone(s).
I think you’ll probably have a lot more M&A activity with the smaller fish. I don’t know who or if it came to my company how I would feel.
April 14, 2015 at 3:48 PM #784705The-ShovelerParticipantLets hope it does not happen.
But I think if you had a lot of options in QCOM it might not be such a bad thing if it were to occur.
In other companies I have been with, they usually just make all options vested and cut you a check.
This is one of those things that works better if your Job title starts with a “C”.

Qualcomm doesn’t typically full vesting upon change of control for most employees. Most big companies don’t.
April 14, 2015 at 4:29 PM #784711HatfieldParticipantRight. I was at QCOM at the time they spun off LEAP, and they granted separate options for LEAP shares. Which I rode up and all the way back down. D’oh.

At least you didn’t get royally f’d over when Ericsson bought us 🙁
Can you say, flush the $1million in options down the toilet? Yeah, that one still stings pretty bad after all these years. 🙁
April 14, 2015 at 11:09 PM #784746HatfieldParticipantOh I had no idea you got caught up in all of that. I have a few friends who got caught up in that also. 🙁

My favorite part was when one of the VPs was assuring us that he/she was going to stay with the new ericsson, and at the last moment, bolts back to Qualcomm…Lol…..Can’t blame that person. I would have done the exact same thing.
April 15, 2015 at 12:46 PM #784783HatfieldParticipantA friend of mine had successfully IOS’d out of CBS to another division before the announcement, and got pulled back in because he was deemed essential.

April 15, 2015 at 2:29 PM #784791CoronitaParticipantIt’s funny that people want QC broken up but intel is going on a shopping spree.
Looks like Intel is going to buy RB based VIA Telecom.
April 15, 2015 at 4:21 PM #784797The-ShovelerParticipantIntel is one of the few companies that acquires a company and does not seem to immediately close down the local facility and transfer the few people it needs up north.
Anyway from what I have seen in L.A.
During the last Tech bubble SV companies bought up most of the local mid size companies (competition) down here and closed them down, There were a lot more Tech companies in L.A. before the boom than after.
It was somewhat devastating to the Tech Job market in L.A. it took a long time to recover.
April 15, 2015 at 4:23 PM #784798HatfieldParticipantTo be fair, how much of Intel’s revenue is from licensing? I think that was always the issue with QCOM, separating QCT from the licensing arm. IIRC, it was particularly an issue during the Nokia battles and I think also with Korea.

April 15, 2015 at 9:40 PM #784805HatfieldParticipantHuh? QTL and QCT are still part of the mother ship. QCT is part of the new QTI entity which operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary, and everything still trades as QCOM. I wouldn’t call any of this arms-length.
