The really wealthy folks always manage to find nice places for themselves. It is an incredibly nice place.
December 22, 2014 at 7:40 AM #781254scaredyclassicParticipantOn Craigslist I saw a 350 sq. Ft apt. Over an art gallery for 1100 a month. That sounds fine.
December 22, 2014 at 8:30 AM #781255The-ShovelerParticipantThe Issue I have with laguna beach is its mostly a tourist trap near the beach area.
To Each their own but I kind of like the Idea of living a bit away from the beach and just going there when I want to.If I was to live right on the beach, I would like it to be a secluded area, probably too far away from the City to be convenient for most.
December 22, 2014 at 9:39 AM #781256scaredyclassicParticipantyeah but what about the laguna beach laughter club? They meet on the beach every weekend to laugh. laughter yoga. also, there are a lot of good bars you could walk to.
December 22, 2014 at 9:45 AM #781258The-ShovelerParticipantI take a long Yoga Walk on the beach (well I just walk on the beach) all most every week.
Then I go home and have a beer in my back yard and look at the stars.
(I live in the middle of nowhere, so that’s maybe where I get my bias for not being around a lot of people).December 22, 2014 at 1:47 PM #781262FlyerInHiGuest
On Craigslist I saw a 350 sq. Ft apt. Over an art gallery for 1100 a month. That sounds fine.
Isn’t that smaller than your master bedroom in Temecula?
Not quite Laguna Beach, but one my relatives bought at 2/2 condo in Laguna Woods for about $75k at the bottom. It’s a co-op with $600/mo maintenance. Low cost retirement in South Orange County, West of the 5. That leaves money for travel and enjoying life.
For those who don’t know, Laguna Woods was Leisure world. It’s a 55 and over community with lots of services such as arts and leisure clubs, horse stables, etc.. Very well maintained. There is a minimum networth required to buy.
December 22, 2014 at 2:16 PM #781263spdrunParticipantSort of a digression, but I didn’t know that co-ops existed outside of NY, NJ, FL, and MD. Do co-ops in CA include property tax in the maintenance payment? Co-ops are technically one building, not separate tax lots, so r.e. tax should be pooled.
December 22, 2014 at 3:13 PM #781264FlyerInHiGuestVery few coops in California.
Coops are actually better, property tax wise, because you’re buying shares in a corporation so there should not be a reassessment. Not sure if the HOA sends a separate bill for taxes or the $6XX includes taxes.
$6XX HOA is pretty good. Includes interior plumbing and electrical repairs, low internet cost, and replacement of appliances every 10 years (there’s upgrade fee for premium appliances). Shuttle buses to the mall and to John Wayne airport.
My cousin’s condo is just like this one, but her building is a 2 story. It tripled in value since the bottom. But it did need remodel.

We have some family members and friends who live there, as well as Dana Point and Malibu, so we visit often. They’ve tried to get us to move north, but we actually prefer coastal San Diego for many reasons.
I think your idea of renting first might be a good idea, before you shell out the big bucks to buy.

I know people who live in Topanga on top a hill. It takes almost 1 hour just to get to civilization. Awesome house, but pretty isolated.
December 22, 2014 at 4:41 PM #781270scaredyclassicParticipantI like the bars in laguna.
December 22, 2014 at 4:42 PM #781271scaredyclassicParticipantIn southern calif. Laguna beach seems about as nice as the coast gets.
December 22, 2014 at 4:44 PM #781269The-ShovelerParticipantYou are probably not married.
It takes me about between 10 and 15 minutes to get to town anyway (only 7 miles away).
But far enough to feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere.
There are very few light as well out here so the sky is incredible at night.
December 22, 2014 at 9:04 PM #781272flyerParticipantBe sure to check out the Festival of the Arts in Laguna during the summer, and The Pageant of the Masters (staged “living art). We’ve traveled to galleries all over the world, and this is an event not to be missed.
