Wonder what the top line would be if they removed security guards.
I am betting it skews that line considerably.
December 18, 2014 at 9:05 AM #781168moneymakerParticipantI would have thought that cooks would be more obese than massage therapists. I think firefighters are in better shape than police officers who are in better shape than security guards. I’ve only had 1 massage from a person that I would call obese and that was at Massage Envy.
December 18, 2014 at 9:49 AM #781170scaredyclassicParticipantim just bored of other peoples fat.
i gotta get off facebook.
a really heavy lawyer i know who moved away posts all the time on facebook about her incredible fitness journey. she was very very large, now shes lean and strong looking. encouraging others to join her on her fitness journey. it’s like finding jesus. so much excitement at first.
just not interested, kind of like hearing about people beating their drug or drinking problems. the story is dull. they figured things out, but its not a good narrative. its dull…bottom line, when people are ready to change, they’ll change. before then, they dont want to change, so just drop it.

That said, I know a TON of scientists who are into marathons, biking and triathalons. Definitely way higher than the overall population.

I agree with you. It’s not something that we would talk about in social settings. We wouldn’t talk real estate or finance in polite company either. But at Piggington, it’s more of an academic discussion.
Obese is way more than overweight. The range for overweight and obese is so debatable that it’s been adjusted upwards.
I know of very few people who are of perfect weight.
Seems like normal has become abnormal these days. HWP (height/weight proportional) means overweight. At the store, S now means medium.
Maybe economists at the least overweight because they are good with value for the money?
December 18, 2014 at 11:33 AM #781178no_such_realityParticipantThe study just uses BMI measure of >30.
Which means a 6 foot tall police officer weighing 225 pounds regardless of physical condition is considered obese by this study.

Then most economists that are six foot tall must be really skinny.
December 18, 2014 at 11:52 AM #781180FlyerInHiGuestI just refreshed my BMI knowledge on Wikipedia.
25 is overweight.
The overweight threshold is 22.9 in Hong Kong and Singapore, big cities where people walk a lot.

some LEO are quite muscular – part of the job of maintaining control. The BMI does not take this into consideration, only weight to heigh ratio. Didn’t say how “obesity” was determined but if BMI was used, this could be erroneous.
nvrmind – others have already posted the same idea.
December 18, 2014 at 1:49 PM #781184FlyerInHiGuestYou don’t need to be big in order to keep law and order. That’s what guns are for.
In other countries, law enforcement is very thin.
There is never any excuse for being overweight. Yes, some people are naturally bigger, but being purposefully overweight to serve a profession is kind of lame. I’m sure Sumo wrestler are big for a reason, but they are big at the expense of their health.
December 18, 2014 at 2:06 PM #781185FlyerInHiGuestFor social workers, clergy and counselor to be obese is unconscionable. I have a hard time trusting people who don’t exercise personal discipline.
A long time ago I had the privilege of joining a Buddhist temple in Thailand (over there anyone can enter and live in a temple for however long you want – day, week, months – and contribute what you can, in money or labor). Everyone was “skinny” by our standards, but normal by their standards. The food they eat is very simple. You walk around and take alms from people in the neighborhood who contribute. There’s no butter, dairy, soda, or all the fattening stuff we eat in America.
December 18, 2014 at 2:42 PM #781186CoronitaParticipantI found out that there are two very very fast way to lose weight.
1. Have your colon removed. That drops 20lbs right there…
2. Chemotherapy is a great way to maintain your weight.. You don’t feel like eating as much. Once off though, watch out. You’ll gain that weight right back…
But in all seriousness, there are various factors to being overweight. Some of it isn’t poor eating habbits. Some of it is is medical related (or can be)… People with a low metabolism for instance.
December 18, 2014 at 7:03 PM #781190NotCrankyParticipant20.1 % of athletes are obese? Maybe some many fat people just missed their calling. I am not fat I am an unemployed athlete.
