Watch “Forks over Knives” on Netflix by Dr Esselstyn. This was Bill Clinton’s diet, or rather life style change. Called extreme by some, but not when compared to heart bypass surgery.

Also, “cholesterol” levels as they’re quoted are not actually cholesterol, but rather lipoproteins (which carry cholesterol through the bloodstream). Even the “bad” type of lipoprotein (LDL) has different subtypes with very different characteristics (fluffy vs dense), and blood tests do not differentiate between them.
Of course, it’s completely up to you, but I personally wouldn’t be too worried if your triglycerides are low (which is looking more and more to be a better predictor of cardiovascular problems than cholesterol).
February 20, 2014 at 1:58 PM #771115kev374Participantdid you get my report by any chance? LOL! My cholesterol is 239 as well and I just tested about 10 days ago!! It has creeped up from 199 a year and 2 months ago… in addition my AST and ALT at 39 and 44 respectively have gone up a bit as well as I have been drinking quite a bit (3-4 beers a day 🙁
My triglycerides are 139 which are borderline I believe. I have a co-worker whose triglycerides were 375..holy cow!!
but I need to stop regular drinking, I’ve been doing it for about 6-7 yrs now but I think it’s time to stop. But I am finding quitting to be incredibly difficult…any pointers?
As for cholesterol levels, I believe if you have high pattern A cholesterol then it’s fine… smaller pattern B is the cause for arteriosclerosis and heart disease! One needs a VAP test to determine particle type which I intend to do next time I get tested.

Still to be on the safe side I shall eliminate pizza, red meat, ice cream and candies. See what happens.
I ate many pizzas.

The last column is cholesterol. Have maintained the same weight and fitness levels so I think cholesterol is like blood pressure, very dubious I think. I did recently happen upon an interesting site http://www.directlabs.com
I had Costco pizza (5 meat) for lunch and pulled pork w/garlic potatos for dinner but I did do some treadmill today.February 20, 2014 at 7:51 PM #771131CoronitaParticipant
My family had pizza and I had salad … they asked if I was trying for a medal in self control.
Get plenty of exercise.
Eat lots of fish.
Eat oatmeal in the morning everyday.February 20, 2014 at 8:27 PM #771132scaredyclassicParticipantI do have low blood pressure 112/72. I feel like I should have high blood pressure. I get uptight. Nervous. But I dont. So in spite of the potential futility of it, I will eat my oatmeal and flax. Some herring from Costco and some salad. And the occasional protein shake at the gym.
