If it feels wrong does that mean it is wrong?
December 12, 2013 at 11:42 AM #769006CoronitaParticipantReally, your kid?
Come on……..Scardey. Your a parent damnit.
December 12, 2013 at 11:44 AM #769007scaredyclassicParticipantWait. Does that mean it’s OK or not?
December 12, 2013 at 12:37 PM #769008kev374ParticipantI can only tell you what I would do if it were my kid…I would read their damn posts! When they become adults then they can get their own privacy but as my children and being in my care it is my right to read whatever the heck I want and grab any info I can get to safeguard them. Don’t feel bad about any of it.

Depends. If you’re worried by your kid’s friends and what they are up too (if they are up to no good), well I think it’s fine.
If you’re trying to fish for sexting posts from your kid’s girlfriend and post them on some revenge website site, probably not a good idea….
December 12, 2013 at 1:13 PM #769011UCGalParticipantI would totally use it to keep tabs. Like flu said – you’re a parent.
I’ve been telling my kids for years that when they get facebook they MUST friend me… or lose access to their computers. But they’re still minors.
Fortunately, they haven’t started on Facebook yet… so I’ve been able to avoid creating an account myself. I’m hoping Facebook goes out of favor soon – so I can die without every having had a facebook account.
December 12, 2013 at 1:42 PM #769014scaredyclassicParticipantNot worried about anything.
Kid is over 18.
Just curious.
Wrong?
December 12, 2013 at 1:43 PM #769015scaredyclassicParticipantDupe.
December 12, 2013 at 1:44 PM #769016scaredyclassicParticipantHow is it different from reading a diary he leaves on the couch? Wouldn’t that be wrong?
December 12, 2013 at 1:53 PM #769017EssbeeParticipantI also kinda doubt that he is going to put anything really juicy/scandalous on Facebook. Hopefully he will not be ‘fessing to drugs, drinking/driving, sex, lying, cheating, crimes etc for everyone to see. You’ll be lucky if you get to see a pic of him at a party or something. Then again, I don’t have very many teen/early 20s FB friends, so who knows.

Nothing wrong if you don’t get caught. Open an anonymous account 🙂

Completely different concept..
See… People have a diary, they rarely share it out there in public for others to read….
A facebook account that is out there in public is screaming “read me”…
If your “kid” doesn’t mind posting every minute detail if his and his GF’s life for the public to see, why would should you self-exclude yourself when some pseudo-random person can see the same thing(s)? Since when did being a parent means being less informed than what your kid is willing to share with some random stranger?
December 12, 2013 at 2:02 PM #769020scaredyclassicParticipantGood point. Kind of. But what if he mistakenly believes he has more privacy than he has. Isn’t it more like a diary then?
December 12, 2013 at 3:06 PM #769022NotCrankyParticipantJust tell him, hey I really miss you, I want to know if I can follow you on Facebook…maybe you can post selfies of how you are ripped? Just ask him.
