Exactly one month after the massive manhunt for ex-LAPD Officer Christopher Dorner, time has not done much to heal the wounds of the two Torrance women caught in the crossfire as they delivered newspapers Feb. 7.

Glen Jonas, the attorney for 71-year-old Emma Hernandez and her daughter Maggie Carranza, paid a visit back to the neighborhood Thursday where the pair was mistakenly shot at by eight LAPD officers, who based on information received that morning, believed Dorner to be in the area.

The two women were in a blue Toyota pick-up truck police believed was similar to the one Dorner had been driving. Hernandez was shot in the back and has been in and out of the hospital since that morning, according to Jonas.

“I’m sorry to say that they’re not doing well,” said Jonas, who said he is working on an agreement with the LAPD. “They live in fear every day that they wake up and think they might get shot again.”

There were 102 bullet holes in the truck, according to Jonas, who said the women still have not received a replacement truck promised by the LAPD.

“I guess there’s some hiccups in the process of how you do such a donation,” Jonas said.

Hernandez’s family has been without a primary vehicle since the shooting, which has proven to be difficult for the family.

“They’re under a major financial burden, because they’re unable to work,” said Jonas. “(Emma) is having a very rough time. She’s got extreme fatigue, is having difficulty eating, walking, just doing anything,” said Jonas. “Every day there’s a concern that they’re going to lose their grandmother and they’re having a rough time with it.”

The LAPD is continuing its internal investigation into the shooting.

Negligence? That’s about as negligent as someone randomly hosing a crowd down because he claimed that he thought there was a Yeti standing in the back. Attempted murder. Either that, or ship them off to a loonie bin.

Maybe the ladies aren’t all that greedy. (If it were my truck, I’d not be pushing for money at all — just for a criminal prosecution and subsequent public flogging on the courthouse lawn.)

There was an update on the case today which further confirms my beliefs: Collectively, the police (and even the govt) culture views the average citizen as somehow less than a person.

You don’t count as much.

Your life has less value than a cops (the kings men).

Your not as important.

These women, unfortunately are just average citizens struggling to make a living. Not having their Toyota truck makes it impossible.

The City is refusing to provide these VICTIMS a new truck.

With the help of the thug LAPD (or other) cops who shot them up, the city is doing a good job of wiping this family off the map and out of existence.

The police are more of a danger to you and your family than most criminals by far.

Hernandez was shot twice in the back, and Carranza was injured by broken glass. Beck called the shooting “a tragic misinterpretation” by officers.

Could their ill-treatment have anything to do with them having last names ending in “-ez” and “-za” rather than “-son” or “-field?” As much as the liberal states claim equality for all, racism is still very entrenched. And dislike of people suspected of “extreme Southern” roots is sadly much more accepted in the US than other forms of prejudice.

Hope they get a lawyer and soak Loser Angeles for the cost of 1000 new trucks.

Too bad soaking Los Angeles doesn’t mean LAPD gets their salaries cut and the budget slashed. Instead it means the taxpayers get to pay more and the citizens get less services. It sure is nice to be king. Until you actually punish the people that actually committed the act through personal loss of wealth or jail time it’s never going to matter.

I’m guessing the lack of aggressiveness in pursuit of happiness by the victims has something to do with their documentary status. People of incomplete status can be found working in the local newspaper delivery industry. Still weird that the city won’t pay up, it’s not their money anyways. Maybe because they were shot by cops from another city.

An update. LAPD settled with the 2 Latinas for a mere $4.2 Million.

Torrance is being bucky and their police department has been fighting even needing to identify the officers that shot David Perdue.

Judge: Torrance must name officers who shot wrong man in Dorner manhunt

That’s one of our local Police Department’s view of accountability, we shot you, you don’t get to know who shot you.
