March 24, 2012 at 6:30 PM #740482svelteParticipantWe have what we call a Play Room…
– Sectional 10 ft x 7 ft with huge ottoman
– 4ftx2ft ribbon speakers mounted on the walls in the corners
– Mid-to-high end audio system
– Big screen TV
– Internet wired and wireless
– Guitars on the walls
– Blue colored ambient lighting running around the base of the sectional and around select baseboards (where it can’t be seen)
– Stripper pole securely mounted to ceiling and floor
– Shelving in the closet stocked with water, towels, games, various accessoriesWe spend quite a bit of time in there actually…
This is what we did with one of our bigger bedrooms once the kids moved out. 🙂
March 24, 2012 at 9:42 PM #740484scaredyclassicParticipantI am constructing an outdoor man-patch with music, squat rack, pull up dip bar, weights, shade. Like a prison yard weight set up.
Also looking to put some rope up in tree for some man climbing and for varyinied size stones say 75, 100, 125, 150 and 200 to start stones for stone lifting. Line em up. And maybe a 12 pound stone for tossing around on the man patch.
March 25, 2012 at 8:56 AM #740490NotCrankyParticipantI guess I am just way more prone to asceticism. I feel like the world is my man cave too. Not missing anything like that.

Walterwhite,
weeeiirrddd, but different strokes for different folks.I’m wondering if mancave enhances the value of a house. As women are the predominant decision makers in home purchases, may not so much. I guess it depends on the degree of customization. i suppose a litely decorated man cave that is easily converted to other use may stir the thoughts of propective buyers into their own man cave ideas.
Im liking the idea of a wine cave, humidor. But of course all that work may go to nought when I downsize and put on the market.

That’s what I was going to post about the site for man caves linked in the original post but it didn’t seem very nice to do so. Different strokes for different folks is right.
Walter’s would be more interesting to me than what’s been mentioned so far.It actually seems manly in a more traditional sense and if you are going to use the word “cave” to describe a hangout it shouldn’t describe some kind of boutique filled with electronics and wannabe faux memorabilia. I doubt I would use the stripper pole much.
March 25, 2012 at 10:49 AM #740494svelteParticipantI had my doubts about the pole too. I must have checked five times to ensure she wanted it.
But it’s been there a few yrs now and most of the women who have visited have tried it…it is almost a universal curiosity among women, it seems. And at home it is a safe environment where they can feel comfortable. Even last night we were talking about it at a club and a woman within earshot said she’d like to come over to give it a try. Universal!
As for the electronics, I really love music and get frustrated by the sound quality of most sound systems in public places…seems everybody skimps on the speakers which is where they should be putting a bigger percentage of their dough. The big screen probably gets used the least as it is basically backup, in case we both want to watch different shows (rare) – it is the second TV in the house.
The guitars aren’t so much faux memorabilia (have no desire to have signed guitars) as much as art. I don’t play, but love the shape of guitars. They are quite sensuous, really. And they relate to one of the main focuses of the room – a music listening environment.
And should we ever decide to sell (not likely), I can turn it back into a regular bedroom in about a half day.
Walter, I started making a home gym a few years ago then sold it all. Found it much easier to use the wide variety of machines at the gym and, besides, at home I get distracted with phone, TV, kids, computer, etc. If I’m at the gym, I have to focus on exercising the whole time. Your man patch does sound interesting though!
March 25, 2012 at 10:50 AM #740495scaredyclassicParticipantI also have large sandbags for sandbag lifting
March 25, 2012 at 10:55 AM #740497scaredyclassicParticipantStill not sure on final man patch location.
Want to take a few days off to construct a nice outdoor toilet. Maybe I’ll put the manpatch near that.
March 25, 2012 at 11:04 AM #740498svelteParticipantHere is a guy building a 90,000 sf house, and guess what he has a room devoted to? See page 4…

That room is much too gawdy for us (that statue! that carpet! that furniture!) but the rest of the room is not far off what we were thinking with ours…
March 26, 2012 at 10:23 AM #740531NavydocParticipantBuilt the ultimate man-cave basement- now I have to sell it to someone else[img_assist|nid=15999|title=Man cave photos|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=447|height=298][img_assist|nid=16000|title=man cave 2|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=447|height=298][img_assist|nid=16001|title=man cave 3|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=447|height=298].
Did all this myself with material from Lowes. The bar has a fridge and a freezer under the counter. Really going to miss this place.

Can’t really call that a man-cave since it’s her closet, per the caption.March 26, 2012 at 11:15 AM #740536ocrenterParticipant[quote=Navydoc]

so the truth is out, we now know the real reason why you need the “extra sqft” stonebridge offers. =)
and just for all future man-cave projects, Lowes will be opening a brand new store in Poway.
