I was going to say take them to Great America, but they are closed probably.
I was also going to say take them into Google’s office, because really it’s like an amusement park in there…
On a more serious note, let me think and get back to you.

December 30, 2011 at 9:52 PM #735232bearishgurlParticipantRide cable car and streetcar. Eat clam chowder at the Pier.
Tour on the Blue and Gold Fleet if you haven’t already.
Go to Muir Woods and collect driftwood.
Six Flags in Vallejo.
Stop on the way home to visit the electric eel at the Monterey Aquarium. (Is it still there?)
Then drive thru Pebble Beach and watch the seals sunning on their backs. (Is it too late in the season for this??)
I’d have to think some more… My kids are old, lol.
Edit: I meant Muir Beach (to collect the driftwood). It’s kind of a winding drive from Muir Woods and spectacular … unlike any beach in SoCal …

– Winchester Mystery House, San Jose
– Tech Museum of Innovation, downtown San Jose
– Christmas in the Park, downtown San Jose – kids really like the 50’s atmosphere, and the Downtown Ice Rink is very popular.
– Boardwalk at Santa Cruz…funky old roller coaster is fun!
And for adults – New Year’s Eve in downtown San Jose.

No, unfortunately it’s not open to the public usually. You can go on the outside of 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, and right now they have an interesting character display of your android desserts: Donut, Eclair, Froyo, honeycomb, ice cream sandwich…
Ok… Here’s FLU’s freak and geek list of things (because you won’t find this in San Diego…)
1. Intel Museum
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/company-overview/intel-museum.html2. Computer History Museum
3. Have you done Fisherman’s Wharf yet?
4. Bike/walk across Golden Gate?
5. Sunday use to be bike/rollerblade/skateboard day at Golden Gate Park (no cars allowed)
6. Japantown
7. Cartoon art museum
8. Visit the HP garage at
367 Addison Ave
Palo Alto, CA 943099. Catch an Imax at the Metreon (Sorry, all the Sony stuff is now gone since Sony sold it to Westfield and Westfield turned it into the run of the mill malls)
10. See if you can visit the Ames NASA Center @ Moffett Field
http://www.nasa.gov/centers/ames/home/exploration.html
11. You probably will miss this since you only have one more day, but visit SLAC
https://oraweb.slac.stanford.edu/apex/slacprod/f?p=240:26:3537066854744591:::::
12. Alcatraz
December 30, 2011 at 11:20 PM #735239Allan from FallbrookParticipantsdr: Palace of Fine Arts and Exploratorium. We hit the Bay Area for a Thanksgiving family trip every year and the kids loved the Exploratorium (till they were about 11 and then no mas).
Muir Overlook is a flat out amazing view of some of the most beautiful scenery in NorCal.
Golden Gate Park is also pretty cool.
December 30, 2011 at 11:44 PM #735241sdduuuudeParticipantObvious ones I assume you did:
———————————
GG Bridge
Cable Cars
Pier/Wharf
Exploratorium
Alcatraz
Lombard street
Coit TowerLess obvious:
—————-
Fort Point UNDERNEATH the GG bridge. Cool for a short visit. You’ll freeze your cannonballs off !Rent a kayak in Sausalito and paddle around.
Farmers market in the old ferry building.
Cable Car Museum
Go to the top of a tall buildng like Bank of America on Calif. street – have a $20 drink or the Transamerica building or the Fairmount and look around.
Drive to the top of Twin Peaks and look around.
They feed the lions at the SF zoo every day and the lions usually roar after eating. Totally awesome. You haven’t lived until you look into the eyes of a male lion as it roars. Worth seeing.
Go see a Golden State Warriors game, or Berkeley or Stanford hoops game.
Check ticketmaster and stub hub to see if any sports/shows/plays/musicians are in town.
It’s always fun to see if you can catch air in a rental car driving on those SF streets.
Here’s one nobody knows:
————————-
Go to Lombard street and drive down it. It’s kind of a yawner. Then, head back up the hill, go a couple blocks south ( I think ) and drive down Filbert street, parallel to Lombard. It is basically as steep as lombard, but without the switchbacks. It is friggin steep. As your car’s tires hit the edge where flat street turns to a slope, you can’t see the road past your hood ! Scary. I did this with the kids and they made me go back about 5 times. Sooooo much better than Lombard. My suggestion:
——————
Go to the Jelly Belly factory in Farfield. It is a bit of a drive but worth it. Spend the money and take the University tour. i think you have to book it online. May be too late. call and beg if you have to. We did the JB University tour and got to eat fresh JBs out of the machines as the were being made. A bit of a drive but totally worth it. Tour JB factory and budweiser brewery practically next door. Also, I think there is an Olive-oil tasting nearby to make it a trifecta of tasting – free beer, jelly beans and olive oil.Too bad CDMA Eng is not online tonight. he knows lots of good eateries in SF.
Ask our mutual friend – lets call him “Joe” who used to live there.
December 31, 2011 at 7:32 AM #735257sdrealtorParticipantThank everyone. Sdude wins the award for almost nailing my day yesterday with list of what i probably did already. Take out exploratorium and replace with Muir Woods, lunch in north beach (Mona Lisa’s) and cannolis at Stella’s. I had to have my car for driving Big Sur on the way up so no catching air on the streets of SF. Wish I had more time to hit up the techie things down south but there is always next time. Heading up to the Fremont Diner in Sonoma for breakfast with some Napa friends then Just have one day to fill.
Happy New Year everyone!

It’s too bad you don’t have time to take the kids on the Skunk Train.
Driving thru the Anderson Valley on the way up there and stopping for wine-tasting (SR-128 thru Boonville, Philo and Navarro) is the experience of a lifetime (if you haven’t already done it)!
The Skunk Train depot would be too far for you, considering you will drive back Monday. You will need to stay overnight in Ft Bragg or surrounds to catch a morning train (limited schedule in winters). Maybe next time . . . when you can plan for a +/-11 hr drive one way (up or back) :=)
scaredy, the Anderson Valley tour is better yet by bike!! Break out your bike-touring manuals!!!
I’m getting wistful just posting this. I’ll be headed up north again in three weeks :=D
Happy new year, Piggs!
