I think of Steve as a visionary, way ahead of his time…my condolences go out to his family.

If AAPL goes down, that mean WP7 and Android will capture those market share. Currently, WP7 is exclusive QCOM’s chip (both app processor and modem). So, if either of those 2 platforms get more market share from iOS, it would mean more profit for QCOM.
October 6, 2011 at 6:11 AM #730147The-ShovelerParticipantMaybe I had it wrong, I was thinking that a lot of QCOM’s success was from their chip sets in the IPhone and IPad.
The Kindle fire will not have QCOM chip sets.

iPhone/iPad uses Apple’s own proprietary application processor. Only recently, when Apple release the iPhone on Verizon did they use QCOM’s modem chip (just the modem). Wifi only iPad does not have any QCOM chip in it.A lot of QCOM’s success is tied to Android’s success and currently Android have almost 50% market share globally. If WP7 becomes more successful in the future, QCOM will be one of the biggest benefactor too, since the only chip WP7 support is QCOM chip at the current point in time.

Yes, he is remarkable and he will be missed by many. Also, AAPL didn’t go down on the news.October 6, 2011 at 10:44 AM #730167sdduuuudeParticipantA nice set of photos here:

I heard this a few months ago and also again last night. Jobs is very inspirational to me, also.

Do you really want to eat at the Hari Krishna temple? On my campus, their food had a weird smell.
I agree with Steve Jobs, about making design beautiful. You want to surround yourself with beautiful things.
The whole speech sounds very liberal in that we should pursue dreams and not follow the well-worn, traditional path that others have taken.
Jobs didn’t say anything like “go to school, get a degree, get married, start a family.”
death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.”
I’m all for the new replacing the old.
October 6, 2011 at 3:40 PM #730191ZeitgeistParticipantMy mother always told me to keep my words sweet in case I had to eat them. I have not always done that. Brian, remember what you said when you are dying. It is easy to embrace change when you are young and full of life. The older you get, the more difficult it becomes to embrace change including death. I think it all depends on what you think is on the other side.
As for the weird smell of the food, for someone as ? (I do not know what to call you), I think you are alienated and looking for some group to throw in with, but you might think you are liberal, I would say the temple’s food does not smell like Western food and I would think you would embrace anything that was not from this country. I am guessing their food had different spices in it than your Western noise is used to. Just my guess, your mileage may vary.
October 6, 2011 at 6:50 PM #730196svelteParticipantAre we talking about the Steve Jobs who got his high school girlfriend pregnant and then denied this beautiful child was his, claiming in court documents that he was sterile? And not taking responsibility until testing had advanced and the court ordered him tested?
Is this the man that is being lionized?
