We had a mold issue in our previous rental. The property manager’s solution was to clean it with 409 and paint over it with Killz. We were month to month at that point and left immediately. I’m guessing you live in one of the cute older neighborhoods of San Diego. We learned from a experience a lot that haven’t been redone are poorly insulated and have moisture issues.
I know it’s a headache, but I’d suggest moving. The fact they’re willing to release you from your lease suggests to me that 1) they know there’s a problem 2) they’re not willing to pay to fix it and 3) they won’t be eager to fix other issues that will come up with the property. Try to get in writing a guarantee of deposit return.

August 23, 2011 at 2:08 PM #723138curiousmindParticipantI’ve been sick for about a month after moving into a place of mine that had not been properly sealed. I saw some signs of mold, and I had just cleaned it off with lysol. I’ve never been sick this long, and have gone to the doctor 3 times with no answers. It’s one of the worst sicknesses I’ve had just for the fact that it’s been so drawn out. I’ve had whooping cough before, and flu’s.. though this sickness is worse as it just won’t seem to go away. Every day I have different symptoms.. Lethargy, dizziness, bad dry cough, aching muscles, difficulty breathing, chills.. When it first started I had a fever, but now my temperature has just been running low. I left my place yesterday after determining for myself it has to be the mold. Feeling better already. I would recomend getting it tested ASAP to determine what kinds of molds you’re dealing with so you can make a decision instead of risking getting sick with something that the average doctors scratch their head at.

Or having them pay for it.
You don’t want them pulling this shit on anyone else.
