I couldn’t live with this type of constant “white” noise (whir of rubber and roar of traffic) under any circumstances, even if it was just in my backyard but that is just me. What if it’s hot and you need to open some windows?

Last month you were imploring a poster to buy a house she was in escrow for on Hawley as the opportunity of a lifetime which had this “this type of constant “white” noise (whir of rubber and roar of traffic)” overlooking the 8 and now its I could never live with that.

I’m pretty sure that’s what they’ve been doing these past couple months along the 5 in North Country. Looks like the concrete has been shaved clean, and it feels like a smoother ride. Not sure how much it helps with noise though.
You can find lots of material/studies on it here: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/Translab/ope/QuieterPavements.html
