    OK Fellow Piggs,

    Sometimes I feel it is my duty to keep everyone balanced. Way too often when we venture off topic it is into politics, world affairs, culture, etc..
    I’m going to arm you with cocktail party knowledge of what will inevitably be the topic of conversation in an upcoming social setting, you need to familiarize yourself with Aztec basketball.

    I realize most people here aren’t big sports fans but most are San Diegans and you really need to start paying attention to something wonderful that is happening in your backyard. For 90 years, SDSU basketball has never been ranked in the top 25, let’s just say they are the team the Cleveland Browns or Chicago Cubs make fun of. Not just a lack of recent success but no success, ever.

    The ESPN blogs are on fire these days because the Aztecs are ranked #6 in the country, they are 20-0 with eleven games left, one of only two unbeaten teams, they have the longest current win streak in college basketball and they have what no San Diego sports team has ever had, a rabid fan base. Seeing the the sold out arena filled with crazed fans, you would never know you were in San Diego, it’s East coast behavior like I’ve never seen.

    Wednesday night will be their toughest game so far, at BYU who is #9, watch it and you’ll be hooked. Every year there is a media darling underdog team in some sport, this year it’s SDSU and I think it’s awesome.

    Just a public service, I’m sure there are people who were around in 1980 and the phrase “USA 4, USSR 3” means nothing to them because nobody bothered to tell them it was happening. There was also probably some guy living in Jeruselum in year 0040 who said he’d been living there 40 years and he never heard of this Jesus guy. So don’t be either guy and check out this Wednesday’s game on TV. I would go the game if they weren’t having it in Utah. Utah and I have agreed to disagree and stay away from each other.

    The Aztecs are on fire! Watching a game at sold out crazy Viejas Arena is the BEST entertainment going in town right now. This is awesome to see. I would love to see San Diego become more of a college basketball town. Going 20-0 and being in the top 10 is a once in a generation type of thing…enjoy it. They may even move up into the top 5 come Monday’s new AP poll.

    Huge tests still at BYU and at UNLV. They will also have to get through the MWC conference tourney….and then on to the NCAA tourney which is where they will REALLY have to prove themselves. They need to go deep into the tourney to really get respect on a national level…at a minimum getting to the sweet 16.

    BYU will be a tough game. Fredette is unconcious but think the aztecs have the better team.

    Steve Fisher was the best hire in school history. He has a little wooden in him.
