    We will be moving to SD from South Africa in August.
    On a recent trip we determined that we would be renting a house in the Carmel Valley area.

    Looking at hotpads.com as well as some suggestions from an agent who is looking for us it appears that almost all of the CV rental properties either do not allow dogs at all or allow but with restrictions.

    We have two 70lb dogs (6 year old German Shepherd and a 3 year old German Short-haired Pointer). While it would be nice to bring them with, from what I am seeing is that doing so will severely restrict our options. If it were up to me I would find a good home for them here, problem is my wife and 3 daughters think very differently!

    It looks like we will need at least a 2500-3500 sq. foot house on at least a 5000 to 7000 lot if we were to have the the space required for all 7 of us.

    I don’t want the situation where we put the dogs through the trauma of bringing them with and then not finding somewhere in our desired area to live with them in comfort. We would also be looking to buy in the same area with the next 18 months and again don’t want to have the same restrictions.

    What have your experiences been?

    We never looked in CV, but we did find that dogs limited our choices when we rented between home purchases a few years back. You’ll find that places with tile floors more willing to accept pets. 🙂

    Also, take a look at craigslist – they have a very convenient filter for places that allow dogs. You may not get a rental in the exact area you want, but you’ll be able to find something. Especially if you’re willing to put up a hefty pet deposit. 🙂

    Also, take a look at craigslist – they have a very convenient filter for places that allow dogs. You may not get a rental in the exact area you want, but you’ll be able to find something. Especially if you’re willing to put up a hefty pet deposit. 🙂

    You poor bastard, it’s time for your testicles to descend. Get rid of the dogs on that end, and tell the split-tails that they ran away with the circus. They’ll figure it out eventually, and never forgive you for it, but hell, there are a lot of things they’re never going to forgive you for.
