We’re familiar with two types of systems…

In our last home, we had Boncor bring in a cylinder every month. Worked out fine, though I wasn’t real comfortable with them having a key to my garage. and working around my vehicles. But one month, I turned off the cylinder to see if the family noticed. Didn’t hear a peep out of anyone after 30 days, so I made a motion that we have the service discontinued. Nobody objected.

We have friends that have the kind where they buy the salt themselves…whenever we shower at their house, it feels like we have a film on us that we can’t wash off. It is a very odd feeling.

i’ve showered in soft water & svelte is right, it feels slippery like soap has already been introduced. I could take or leave it for showering (my experience). It would be cool to hear how long someone’s water heater lasted with one of these systems (supposedly longer/more efficient).

We used to have a water softener in our old house. I added salt myself.

Yes, it feels like you have a filmy substance on you while you shower. But, everyone’s hair was fuller. After we moved from that house and had no water softener anymore it seemed like my hair got thinner and I started to look like I was losing my hair. We recently stayed at my MIL’s house which has a water softener and sure enough, after two days of showers there my hair started to look fuller and thicker again. My wife also notices the difference in her hair being more thicker.

So, if you have thinning hair get a water softener. I even went so far as to look on the internet for shampoo that could simulate the effects of a water softener but no luck.
