I saw your place on jimtherealtors youtube channel and if I was you I would get multiple bids for custom cabinets made to fit your place and needs. You can get them done inexpensivly now as most people are out of work in that field. IKEA really onlly has 2 decent styles to choose from. The medium brown and the dark brown. The rest are a retro/weird Europian look imo. My neighbor had his custom made to fit his house and he stained them himself. This may be an option also for you as you didnt appear to be 80 years old in the video (my neighbor was 70 when he did his lol). Do some great before and after pics/videos. Would love to see it done.

PS where ever you can check into limestone. I did it on my backspash and really love it. I like it because like my granite guy said, “most go limestone untill they see the price then they install travertine”.

EDIT… wait a second… I remember my bathroom vanities I did in the bathrooms. They have many styles and use only 100% wood (60″ vanity was $460 and the 30″ was $260. The quality is sweet and they have those “self closing” doors the wifes love and give you some attention after they get installed. They also do a lot of kitchen cabinets and have a cool show room and have the best deals on their pre fabbed vanity granite tops. They are far from you but will deliver for a fee but the cost on the cabinets would save you some cash. Link is below. This is one of those small places where you get a great deal and know you are not paying for an assload of overhead right when you walk in there and look around. I got both vanities, granite tops, sinks in that video above from them:

EDIT #2.. DO NOT buy your under mount stainless sink from home depot or any where else. I got 16 gauge deep under mount brand new shipped to me for $120. The under mount and retractable neck facet I bought both off ebay. Most home depot sinks are 18 gauge plus

edit #3 OMG i AM EDITING AGAIN/ (with caps locks on geez). If you buy from IKEA you will have every single hinge, door, drawers, bases in different boxes. I think I had almost 200 different boxes. Putting them all together was really really crazy. A really big turn off from buying from them again. You almost need to hire someone just to do that. That kitchen in my video I did for $5400 after tax. Almost $1500 just for the 3 pantrys alone (the 2 30″ wides and 1 15″ inch wide. Should be the last edit. This post is going to need a second damn chapter if I continue.

I do like Ikea’s soft-closing drawer glides, etc.. but many other cabinet makers offer those as an option.

We’re in the VERY long process of a DYI kitchen redo. We’ve chosen to keep the original 1960’s cabinets because they are solid wood. We’re sanding/painting them. The doors are plain front – which is not to some people’s taste – but I like it. Simple, unfussy – and makes the sanding/resurfacing much easier.

We looked at cabinets at HD, Lowes, Ikea, etc… We were not impressed with prices or quality.

Another pet peeve of mine. Our existing upper cabinets go to the ceiling. Which means we have more storage and don’t have that gap that gathers dust and isn’t useful that you see in most kitchens these days. We looked for pre-fab upper cabinets that were of a similar height and there weren’t any. I see so many kitchens that have that gap from about 7′ up. That gap drives me nuts.

It’s labor intensive to resurface existing cabinets – but in our case it was worth it because the exising cabinets built from quality dimensioned lumber and were of the size we wanted. It does tie us to the existing layout – but that’s ok because the layout works.
