I read the article because I first thought it was about some housing story in Malibu.
It turned out to be a story of what happens when you merge the greed (of Madoff) and stupidity (rich victims of Madoff) into ONE person. Basically you end up with a Wells Fargo senior vice president. In this case a Sr. VP who’s supposed to be in charge of foreclosed commercial properties that Wells Fargo owns.
Basically a rich couple lost a $12 million beach house in Malibu. The owner couple refinanced it for $3 million with Wells Fargo Bank in 2007. The couple ends up losing the property when they lost $ with, you guessed it, Madoff. Up to here, it’s just normal story. Than the story gets interesting.
Neighbors notice strangers spending weekends and having a large party at the house. And they know the property hasn’t been sold yet.
Wow. If Wells Fargo doesn’t fire her, I will be amazed. There are so many issues at work here, from a liability and litigation standpoint, it ain’t even funny.
