    I seem to recall a while back that some posters had mentioned they had the ability to lock or block off their Social Security Numbers and then release the lock via pin number over the phone or internet….

    Can someone give some more info on that? Was it a Social Security Admin. option or a third party company.

    It is “Freeze your credit report”, this got nothing to do with the SS admin, but a request from you to the credit reporting agencies (TRW,Experian, Equifax). There is a cost to do this but it’s free in California if you were a victim of any identity theft. I did it 4 years ago, and personally would not recommend it as it a pain in the A@# to unfreezes your credit reports (with 3 agencies by providing the PIN number) just to get approve for a car loan.

    I’ll check out your link. So it’s something you do in writing, not online or by phone?

    I understand the PITA (Pain in the arse) issue but we have to do something to cover our arses as a result of our info. currently in the wrong hands.

    If I can’t figure out how to do it I’ll let you know and maybe get those templates from you.
