    I need to have my very last wisdom tooth removed and the dentist insists that a bone graft be done (at a $300 extra charge not covered by insurance). I have never had or even heard of such a thing before. Is this just BS so he can make a few more bucks?

    Wouldn’t surprise me. You can easily take the x-rays to another dentist for another opinion.

    Around age 28 I had all 4 removed at once, and had an abscess, but didn’t get a graft. Healed up nicely. Going on 10 years now.

    If I were you I would go see an Oral Surgeon, especially if your wisdom tooth is impacted.

    Honestly, a dentist should not be performing an extraction of wisdom teeth.

    You don’t know why he is recommending a bone graft and since we cant see your X-rays and we are not qualified to advise you anyway its better to see an expert. Its probably cheaper too.

    Normally, you do not need a bone graft for a wisdom tooth. Bone grafts are usually used for dental implants. Usually the only time they have to bone graft after extracting a wisdom tooth is if you have a tumor, cyst or bone defect.
