Just an FYI to anyone who is interested. I received this email forwarded to me from some angry Bressi Ranch owners regarding a home that is to be purchased and turned into a group home for the mentally disabled:

“Carlsbad Residents,

(For those of you who do not live in Bressi but live in Carlsbad may not have been informed, however, this directly effects you as well – please read the below string to understand what is currently happening in Carlsbad…this could very easily happen in your neighborhoods as the TERI house suggested there are many other planned ‘homes’ to be purchased in North County and converted to ‘Group Homes’. If you have ANY questions feel free to email me!)

In case this is the first time you are hearing about this … the home 2 doors from ours at 6205 Alverton Drive has been purchased by a not for profit organization called TERI House http://teriinc.org/about.html. It is a foundation for mentally disabled adults. The idea is to ‘mainstream’ these adults and this organization has purchased this home to house 6 adults between the ages of 18-22 diagnosed with severe mental disabilities well as their caretakers.

Bressi Ranch had an HOA meeting where this topic was discussed on Dec 11th and in follow up, Jim (my husband) called the City of Carlsbad. He was ultimately was connected with Debbie Fountain from City of Carlsbad Housing Redevelopment Department who says she has a lot of information to share. She has offered to meet with us as a community to give us information on the city’s role in the purchase of this home. Please read the below updated letter regarding next steps … A meeting is planned to be held at the Bressi Ranch Clubhouse during the week of January 5th. A follow up email will be sent out once City Councilmember Packard and Debbie Fountain sync schedules. We know this is a busy time of year, but please try to attend— It is vital that you come so that we can show the City of Carlsbad that this is not a small block of homeowners who are disturbed, but rather hundreds of Carlsbad residents and voters that are outraged!

If you can’t join us the BEST possible way for you to voice your opinion is to write an email to our City Council at [email protected] … write an email with your name, address and opinion of the City of Carlsbad funding 800K of the 1M (background: 1M home that has a $250K backyard including an underground pool which will have to be locked for the safety of the patients.) purchase price of this home to house 6 mentally disabled adults in a neighborhood where 20 children under the age of 10 live within 5 doors proximity all directions of the house (Jim was off on numbers — there are FAR more children within 2 blocks).
