    Some friends of ours recently moved into a home that was in the process of foreclosure…they found out after they had moved in unfortunately. Well last week they were told they had 60 days to move out. Today they were told they would be given $5000 if they could move out within 2 days.

    Not sure what bank, but it sounds as though the bank may be trying to offload assets quickly. I’ve read that there is going to be a glut of properties hitting the market all at once, but I didn’t think that banks would be in such a rush that they would pay out some money to renters.

    Or perhaps this is just par for the course and banks don’t want people to trash their properties…not sure. I would think that the property would be better maintained with renters in it than if it was vacant.

    May be that a short sale is getting close to closing for it? $5000 for two days sounds like they have a buyer lined-up somwehow. Tell your friend to call them back and say they’ll do it for $12K.

    what do they pay in rent.

    they ought to tell them to Fuck off, hire a lawyer, and stay for free as long as they can. they might do better than 12k….

    imagine how long you could tie this up in court…. OMFG…..

    5k is a joke. i’d call them back and laugh. how about 20k….

    I agree that they should get more…especially considering that it’s almost impossible to find a place and get movers and a rental truck on such short notice. This is a family of 5 we’re talking about…it’s not that easy to just pick up and move like that.

    I wonder if the person calling and making the $5k offer has the authority to offer more.

    And is a short sale really all that dependent on the property being vacant?
