    Has anyone ever worked with an interior designer?

    I’ve been thinking about hiring an interior designer for some BASIC guidance/ideas – paint colors, flooring, window treatments and furniture placement. I can be pretty indecisive about these things and usually end up choosing beige wall colors – to be safe. And then I see a friend’s house with an a burnt orange room and feel remorseful that I didnt have the chutzpah to do that.

    I consulted with one designer and, judging from her response, she CLEARLY saw this as a “big project” opportunity. Not what I had in mind at all.

    We plan to take this all slowly and be conservative. It may be a year or more before we even commit to new furniture.

    I’d be willing to spend about a few hundred $$ for consulting time that would give us a “road map” to follow on our own…ideas/suggestions for rooms that we could slowly do ourselves over time.

    Any suggestions? Recommendations? Thanks.

    Howdy – After years of expensive blunders, I decided to enlist interior design person. After viewing several websites and seeing a home near mine, I chose CEDO Interior Design (ASID) behind Treasure complex on Miramar Road.

    Initial consult is free, but if you opt to go with them, flat rate is $4500., otherwise hourly rate charge.

    Carly is an excellent listener and was able to home in on my free association ramblings about what I do/don’t like & develop a master plan for overhaul of flooring, window treatments, wall, cabinets & kitchen within my budget constraints (I love this home & will live here forever!).

    dharmagirl, the only time I’ve worked with an interior designer was when I bought furniture from Ethan Allen. If you buy there, you get the services of their designers for free.

    Ah…I had hoped that an interior designer would be able to give us a “basic plan” to follow for the price of a few consults ($500-$750).

    I’ll call the woman I’ve emailed with and see what she says.

    $4500 is definitely out of the question. Not with all of the other stuff we have to do…
