All of Oceanside (IMO) will continue to fall bigtime. If you can, urge your friends to wait another year at the least if possible. Rancho Del Oro is okay but ask them to check out Ivy Ranch. I believe it is a noticeable upgrade to Rancho Del Oro for not much of a price increase.

One thing if you’ve been gone 8 years is that the traffic is a lot worse now (if you haven’t noticed already). I moved to North Carlsbad in 99′ and the drive was a breeze, but by 2005 it had become a slow slog down the coast. If you work up there, great, you can get a lot more for your money, but if you work around the 52, you’re going to be seeing a lot of bumpers in the morning and the evening.
I agree with SD Realtor that O’side has a ways to fall, it’s not the most desirable area (schools, gangs, about 3-4 Walmarts) and it’s hella’ far up there.April 4, 2008 at 5:33 PM #181289DoofratParticipantIt’s still Escondido on the ocean, just some new neighborhoods towards the East that are nicer than the old ‘hoods. LOL @ the Walmart comment-in the same category as gangs. This is probably a loaded question but why can’t Oceanside get it together? It really has a lot of potential to be a nice coastal city.
Growing up in Newport Beach I remember that Hunington Beach (yes, I am from the OC) had some issues but the city was able to turn itself around. My parents live in San Clemente now and they thought that Oceanside was getting better but judging by the lack of enthusiasm on this board, I’m not so sure.
