ParticipantIt’s worth a trip to the assessor’s office to find the status of the parcels and who owns them. You will need to work through them (and maybe the coastal commission) when you build and they have all the parcel owner info.
You might get lucky with a parcel, give it a shot!

ParticipantI agree with Nostra. When my wife built a home in Ramona back in the 90’s she sent a ton of unsolicited letters to landowners. Nothing really panned out for her but she followed that strategy that Nostra pointed out.
True deal hunting takes ALOT of legwork and there really is not a magic substitute.
You may not be able to buy in this area now but in a few years you may be able to. In the meantime keep banking cash.

ParticipantMy wife and I found some realitively nice lots just off the freeway a while back, decided against it because we live near a freeway now and it is not conducive to a good nights sleep. No experience here about building but I wouldn’t attempt it unless you have a lot of cash and patience. Encinitas is a beautiful area and is not ruled out for us.
