The more I read about the crap that's going on in CA, the more and more I think Southern CA is headed for a big big big recession. So far, things seem to be ticking along because so far employment has been pretty good. But have any of you considered the following
1) Lot's of people who were in the RE business are losing their job.
2) Arnold just announced 10% cuts across the board. Lot's of people are going to lose their jobs in the gov sector.
3) The entertainment industry isn't looking to good, especially with the strikes and the cancellation of a lot of studios.
4) Any effort to cut fed spending perhaps will lead to a defense spending downsizing just like in the late 80ies early 90ies, for which a lot of employment in SoCal is based on.
5) All this slowdown will just trickle down to the retail sectors, already stretched thin by the more macro-economic issues…
Looking pretty grim for SoCal, and seems primed for a meltdown, don't you think?

I share your concerns and yes it does seem rather ominous to me too. I’d also point out that since CA is not a state in play in the upcoming election (Whoever is the Dem Candidate will take all the electoral votes) there is little incentive for politicians to steer any federal government “stimulus” our way. Just another minor issues to put in the “Things look bad Column”
