    I am curious what everybody thinks will happen to rents in the next few years. There are plenty of opinions regarding sales volumes and price forecasts, but what’s the scoop on rents in the apartment market?

    Are rents likely to decline? I noticed my old 650sf 1-bedroom apartment in Pacific Beach has gone up (it was $1125/month in 2003, now it’s $1300 or so…)

    It seems important to know what rents will do as a component of the predictions for housing prices, especially in the condo market.

    I’ve been renting a 1 bedroom in Pacific Beach for 5 Years and my rent has not chanaged during that period of time(900 a month).

    I am moving to a 2 bedroom house in a couple of weeks with real hardwood floors a yard, gargage etc $1600.

    After looking at 30 or 40 properties I would say that rent around here is all over the map. There are nice places that rent for 1400 and there are dumps that rent for 1700. I think time of year has a lot to do with rents around here.

    If tennants are moving out after October, owners are screwed because they could be holding that property until March or April.

    I agree, rent are just… random. I looked at a lot of stuff, there were crappy 3 BR condos asking 500/mo more than I got my gorgeous 3 BR house with a huge lawn on a park for. And they were a longer commute.

    I got really good at walking into a place, spending 2 minutes looking at it, saying ‘no’ to the owner and walking out. I’m sure some people got miffed, I don’t give a shit.

    I got really good at walking into a place, spending 2 minutes looking at it, saying ‘no’ to the owner and walking out. I’m sure some people got miffed, I don’t give a shit.
