On HGTV there is a landscapers challenge show and no matter how small a backyard is, every desginer wants to put in a water feature. This one couple had a yard no larger than 300 sqft, yet all three designers wanted to put in a water feature. I just don’t get what the big deal is. My old neighbour who had a 50 sqft backyard with no space for more than 5 people had a water feature installed. He must have watched these stupid shows and thought he “had” to have one.
The big trend in design right now is the indoor/outdoor living thing where your patio or rear yard area becomes part of your living space. The trends for the grandiose BBQ island and hardscaping is an extension of that.
It’s cool if you actually intend to spend lots of time in your yard. It’s worthless if you don’t.
