That is the traditional way That is the traditional way in Africa, to just leave the body out for animals to forage on,forgot about that, not really an option for us here and shouldn’t be done there anymore either due to ebola.

I’m sure you’re right spdrun. I’m sure you’re right spdrun. Personally I’d like to be put into a giant glass test tube and launched into deep space to float forever in deep space, preferably with enough kinetic energy to escape the sun’s gravitational pull. Not realistic but I think that would be cool to not litter the earth and be frozen forever without taking up resources.

That’s a very good question That’s a very good question and concerns real estate.
My cousin controls our grand parents’ graves in NY. She’s very good about it. She visits the graves frequently (mostly because her mom was recently buried there). She brings flowers, etc… It’s a lot of work and costly.
My aunt’s catholic funeral was very nice. My cousin invited the priest over to breakfast. We then had a viewing at the funeral home, a private church service, and then a luncheon.
For those of you who want to be buried. Where (where you were born or where your kids live)? how much would you spend for the plot?
How much would you spend for the funeral services?
Seem like a total waste of time and money to me.

I guess the only way to have I guess the only way to have a family plot in the south 40 these days is to be cremated. I would be ok with that except it seems so final.

If you’re planning on If you’re planning on donating to science, you need to prearrange it. For example UCSD Medical school has a form you can download, sign and get witnessed and notarized… It has to be on file with them before you pass.
My family has done this (parents, maternal grandparents). To me the whole casket thing is creepy. The idea of embalming (preserving) is really creepy to me.
My paternal grandfather had the open casket funeral. It was very creepy to see him looking like a wax figure with too much makeup.
Cremation is the end result if you donate to UCSD. They harvest what they can, use it as a cadaver, etc… then cremate for you.
I don’t need urns or grave sites to remember my family. But it’s a cultural choice… you do what your family has always done.
One more practical tip. My brother wanted to be buried in the high country in the Rockies. He specified a plain pine box. (This discussion was at the end of his short battle with aggressive cancer). We found out that there is a BIG difference in price between plain caskets for burial vs for cremation. We also found out it’s legal to use cremation caskets for burial. If your idea is “dust to dust”… save $1000 or more and get a cremation casket. (The funeral home didn’t offer this – my sister just happened to notice the price difference in the casket catalogue and asked.) He has what he wanted – buried in Estes Park, nice headstone, etc. And since he gave his small estate to his church – we preserved a little for them.

Lol.
Frankly I don’t care Lol.
Frankly I don’t care what they do with my shell after I die because…well…I’ll be dead!
Take the cheapest option, no matter to me. I’ll likely leave plenty behind that will way more than cover the cost of the cheapest option. Use the rest of the $$ to enjoy life.
