Participant
To urbanrealtor: I don’t think my statement is really that inaccurate at all. A proud two finger salute to you sir – yes, that’s one from each hand.
I know realtors and brokers of all types have a problem counting unless the numbers are green, thought I’d help you out.
Yes because 2 years of differential calc left me unable to count (not sure how the color would help as I am red-green colorblind…).
I think stating that all real estate agents are unethical or stupid is a bit like saying that all cops are power-obsessed gun nuts, or that all code monkeys are socially retarded hacks.
It is true that independent contracting tends to select for those who can’t or don’t want work regular jobs. It is also true that sales tends to select for, well, sales types.
However, I think its a far leap to say that being a con artist is required. I am glad that the cheesier agents have become fewer since the downturn. My only frustration with the sizable uptick in business in the central San Diego neighborhoods is that I suspect it will bring more cheeseballs out of the woodwork.
You are, of course entitled to your opinion. Since arguing with you is a bit like arguing with Casca (like you argue at the same level), I will leave it at that.

Your glib remark is inaccurate. But I am guessing you were more interested in getting a good rip in more than actually helping the op. A proud one finger salute to you sir.To the op:
Something to bear in mind is the basic dynamic of the broker-agent relationship.
The cost to a broker of taking you on is basically zero.
If you want to get a good education and the tools to succeed, I recommend having a friend do a search for which agents do the most business in the neighborhoods that interest you. Then compile a list of them and fax or email all of them your resume asking to “join their team” or some similar noncommittal language. It allows you to find out who needs an assistant and who actually responds to their communications.
Talk to any who call you.
If you can get a paying gig out this then take it.
If you cant then go with whomever offers you the most educational experience.
The diversity of styles in this business is huge.
Lots of successful agents in this industry do business in very different ways (eg SD and sdr and me).Don’t be afraid to be honest if an agent just seems like a bad fit.
Okay that’s my 2 bits.
Good luck brother and feel free to ask questions.

ParticipantOkay.
I looked it up and yes, your use is well done.
It is consonant with both how you said it and how I vaguely remember my grandfather using it.For those not grasping our esoteric weirdness:
Fenian is essentially militant Irish nationalism.
This is distinct from being Irish or from (Irish) Republicanism.
Essentially how Zionism is distinct from Jewish nationalism which is also different from being Jewish.
I am not a Fenian.
The below image, which I saw while in Belfast, is a good example of why. It is an Orange (British loyalist) mural but I think it gets the sentiment of the city across. http://people.ku.edu/~kconrad/smural2.jpgA good thing to remember is that the nobody kills more Green Irish than the Sinn Fein and IRA.
Not the Orange Irish and not even the British.
But Allan, yes, I would still love to have my own highschool insurgent cell.
