Maybe if this guy could get a nice home (McMansion) in SD for about 500K he would not be tempted to leave maybe ???
Just my two cents.
The-ShovelerParticipantNor_LA-Temcu-SD-Guy
Yea same boat as you almost, Want MacMansion in North SD or Ventura (whatever come my way first) but will only part with about 500K for it. At least until inflation does a real number on my pay anyway.
I own a home now, so no hurry for me,
Still waiting ……
The-ShovelerParticipantYou will know your a chump when :
1) The government stops paying out Social Security benefits so they can meet the pension demands of government employee’s (who don’t pay SS tax). And your not a government employee.
2) The Stock market has gone all K-Mart on you before you could get your 401K money out.

I think anyone who is not the CEO (or exec) of one of these big home builders has to feel like a chump (or will feel like one when we have to bale out the banks via the government).
If you think you feel like a chump now, just wait until the boomers try to withdraw from their 401K’s.

Yea the L.A. area is still a different animal, In Valencia (Valencia to L.A. is what Temecula is to SD), 1 to 1.5 Million prices for Mc-Mansions are still common. It’s really going to be a blood bath there.
Only with a lot more crime and smog .

Just my opinion but I think we are looking at a shelf before the next cliff, kind of like looking down the grand canyon,
cliff – shelf — next cliff — next shelf — next cliff etc..
Anyway, don’t see a big run-up in prices at this point, so I will wait and see.

Don’t know if I would buy a place south of the border (anyplace south of the border). But I may rent for awhile, try a few different locals.
SomePlace with a beach in walking distance and the ability to fish for dinner (I am a simple guy).

On a similar note about Second life:
“Silicon Valley gossip rag Valleywag is carrying a story about Second Life being a new spin on the old pyramid scheme. The article, which consists mostly of selections from the report of financial consultant Randolph Harrison, suggests that not only are most people deceived about the amount of money they can make in Second Life, but also about how easily they can withdraw it. It says ‘Like the paid promotion infomercials that run on CNBC, sadly SecondLife is a giant magnet for the desperate, uninformed, easily victimized. Its promises of wealth readily ensnare those who can least afford to lose their money or lives to such scam in exactly the same way that real estate investor seminars convince divorcees with low FICO scores to buy houses sight unseen with no money down.'”
Same old same old !!

You guy’s got to Listen to this, it’s funny and enlightening at the same time.
Have fun !!

The weather was good (warm) on the east coast (50’s and 60’s) until the last week or so.

Fannie Mae furloughed all non-essential contract employees for about three weeks over the holidays and new year and just announced a hiring freeze with no end date set.
